FRANKFORT – The Frankfort Fire Department will be continuing a 45-year tradition next week as they put on the Santa parade throughout their district.
The visits will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 19, and continue for four nights as Santa in his sleigh, his workshop and mini carousel make their way through each neighborhood, said Assistant Fire Chief Matt Palumbo.
“It’s a tradition that’s been going on for more than 45 years,” Palumbo said. “When I was a kid, my dad did it. And now here I am doing it.”
The department’s firefighters volunteer their time and effort for the annual parade – preparing the equipment, towing the floats, playing Santa and handing out candy to kids they pass.
“It’s a complete department thing,” Palumbo said. “Everybody pitches in to get ready, checking lights and setting things up. We enjoy it.”
Throughout their route each night, families are welcome to come out and meet Santa, share their holiday wishes with him and take pictures.
“It’s something the community looks forward to every year,” Palumbo said.
The tour begins Tuesday on Reese Road, will travel to McGowan via Acme Road, and end in Terrace Hill Estates Park.
At 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, the tour will continue with First Avenue and Fifth Avenue Extensions, Button Lane to Litchfield Road, and working its way down South Litchfield Street to the fire station.
On Thursday, Dec. 21, Santa will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Pleasant Avenue and weave his way up Acme Road/Main Street, (including Ives, East Canal and Erie streets, Tisdale, Bee and William streets, Adams and Elizabeth streets) to conclude at Hillcrest Road.
Finally, on Friday, Dec. 22, the tour will begin at Reese Road and First Avenue at 5:30 p.m. and conclude on Eighth Avenue.
