HCHS Mutt Strut

HERKIMER – Hundreds of people and their furry, four-legged friends gathered at the Herkimer County Community College campus Sunday, taking part in the Herkimer County Humane Society’s 19th annual Mutt Strut.

Participants perused dozens of vendor displays, entered to win prizes, watched demonstrations, walked a marked course around the campus, checked out some dogs available for adoption and raised thousands for the local shelter in the process.

“(Carolyna) is walking in memory of her dog, Luke, who passed away two weeks ago,” said Mutt Strutter Arlene Nulty of her friend, Carolyna Grant. “Luke was a great dog. He was 16-years-old. We thought this would be a good idea; to honor him. And she raised $100 too!”

Also in attendance was 9-year-old Julie Dorantes, who raised $117 by selling snacks and beverages to shoppers during Herkimer’s Village Wide Garage Sale Day, May 30. Julie turned in her hard-earned money and was thanked publicly by humane society volunteer Ed View.
