The Herkimer diamond the generic name for a double-terminated quartz crystal discovered within exposed outcrops of dolostone in and around Herkimer County, New York and the Mohawk River Valley.  You can practically find them on the side of the road.  Some people claim that the Herkimer diamond has mystical powers and they are used as a cleansing crystal

Jim Adams, store manager of Johnson’s Carpets Plus Colortile, on Main Street said, “Good weather brought people back to Main Street.  We need more of these events to bring people back.  It’s what Herkimer needs.”

The Herkimer Diamond Festival and Gem Show featured a giant selection of food on Park Ave between Main and Prospect Streets.  4 food trucks joined restaurants, bbqs, and lemonade and kettle corn vendors.  If you could not find something to eat you weren’t looking.

Dominick Scalise from Dominick’s Deli (on Albany Street) said, “Seriously, it’s great that Herkimer finally has a festival again.  I hope it continues.”

Herkimer’s Mayor, Tony Brindisi, said, “I couldn’t be more pleased.  For a first time show it’s a great turnout.  Great show, great job, great volunteers.  The attendees are happy and the vendors are happy.  You can’t ask for more.”  Brindisi said the group will make some changes next year to make everything more convenient and a better show.

The Herkimer’s Diamond Festival & Gem Show highlights the gem that many of us take for granted and brings life back to the center of the village.  The festival continues on Sunday, July 19.  For more information go to www.herkimergemshow.com or find them on Facebook.

Better planning is needed…there would have been much more traffic for you if not for the DooDah Parade and Ilion Days.
