HERKIMER – One man suffered injuries as the result of a motorcycle accident in Herkimer Saturday morning, said Lieutenant Rick Macri with the Herkimer Fire Department.

A 48-year-old Richfield Springs man lost control of his motorcycle on an oil slick in the intersection of Mohawk and South Caroline streets at about 11:30 a.m., Macri said. His name was not released yet.

Macri said a vehicle came through the intersection shortly before the accident, leaking oil. The vehicle continued on to leak oil in multiple spots on State Street as well. Officials have not determined who is responsible for the leakage, Macri said, but firefighters applied a quick dry substance to the spills to prevent any further accidents.

The Mototrcyclist suffered “a pretty good gash” on his arm and complained of lower back pain, Macri said, but no life-threatening injuries.

MOVAC and the Herkimer police department were also on the scene.

“This might be a good time to remind all motorcycle drivers to be wary of slick spots and sandy areas,” Macri said. “It’s real easy to slide out.”
