FRANKFORT – Palm Sunday worshipers at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort had to resist temptation during services, Sunday, as the aroma of maple syrup and fried goodness wafted through the hall.
Frankfort Kiwanis held its annual Don Gross Memorial Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast Sunday morning, raising money for various local children’s programs.
“We’ve been doing this every Palm Sunday for probably 30 years,” said Joe Long, Kiwanis Treasurer. “Don Gross started it, and now that he’s passed it’s continued in his memory.”
Frankfort Kiwanis is one of only two Kiwanis clubs in Herkimer County, the other residing in Old Forge. It’s purpose, Long said, is to improve the lives of children through various programs that encourage literacy, leadership, moral values and hard work. Kiwanis also sponsors a number of local and national scholarships.
Money raised by the Frankfort Kiwanis’ 25 members is used to help children throughout the Mohawk Valley, said Long.
“We just try to help however we can,” he said.
