On Friday November 3rd a small group of volunteers gathered at the Ilion municipal building refurbish the veterans name plaques. Many of the names had fallen off the plaques in recent years. The name plates have been sitting on a desk, in storage, or had simply not been added yet.

Danyel Sommer-Everson explained, “Arline Joy of Ilion reached out to the Ilion Municipal Hall about the name plaques of local Veterans that were not up on display in the Municipal Hall. She then reached out to us at the VFW. We gathered a few people and got the job done in time for Veterans Day.”
Joy’s brother, a Desert Storm Vet, Chris Dunham, was home visiting at this time. Arline Joy was able to place his name on the wall plaque with him present..
Danyel Sommer-Everson said, “The names on the plaques represent all local veterans. We worked with Chelsea at the Ilion Municipal Building to get this project done with the help of vets from a group called that United that are affiliated with the Herkimer VFW.
Please take a moment in the next week to stop by and read all the names of your local Vets!
