ILION – A Canajoharie woman fled from police and struck an officer with her car in the process, Saturday, before finally being apprehended, Ilion police said.
The woman, 25-year-old Kacia Kuntzsch, was charged with reckless endangerment, driving while ability impaired by drugs, and multiple other vehicle and traffic violations committed during her flight from police. She is currently being held in the Herkimer County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail.
Officers reported that the incident occurred as they responded to a complaint of a suspicious person. A call to the Ilion Police Department by a resident reported a woman sitting inside of a vehicle for an extended period of time. As police initially approached the vehicle in question and announced themselves, Kuntzsch allegedly started the vehicle and sped off, striking an officer as she pulled away from the curb. The officer did not sustain injury, police said.
Kuntzsch continued to flee the scene with police in pursuit and was later detained and taken into custody without further incident.
Kuntzsch is currently on probation in Montgomery County.
