Herkimer College was awarded Most Affordable on the final list published last month by Intelligent.com and was ranked number eight overall out of the 22 community colleges scored. The higher education resource guide identifies top schools in the state based on tuition costs, the number of credits required to graduate, and the online coursework delivery format. There are 30 SUNY Community Colleges across New York.
“We are excited to be named among the top ten community colleges in New York and, overall, most affordable,” says Herkimer College President Dr. Cathleen C. McColgin. “Here, students can obtain an exceptional education from esteemed, dedicated faculty. We are proud to provide countless opportunities for success and advancement, all within reach for every learner.”
To maintain its commitment to affordable and accessible education, the College announced in early 2022 that its in-state tuition and fee rates for the 2022-23 academic year would remain static. Tuition for full-time, in-state students is $2,558 per semester, and part-time, in-state tuition is $189 per credit hour.
Intelligent.com implemented a unique methodology that ranks each institution on a scale from 0 to 100 across six categories. The scoring system compares each school to tuition costs, admission, retention and graduation rates, faculty, reputation, and the student resources provided for online students.
According to Intelligent.com, studies show that obtaining a degree increases income substantially, with graduates earning 84% more than those with only high school diplomas or those without a completed GED. The percentage difference in earnings continues to grow with higher learning degrees such as master’s, doctoral or professional degrees, with the unemployment rate decreasing to as much as 1.6% for those with a doctorate.
