Lynn William DePaolo of Speculator, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome and Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Born on November 24, 1952, in Poughkeepsie, New York, Lynn was the oldest of three sons of the late William and Gertrude (Corrow) DePaolo. He was a 1970 graduate of Arlington High School and proudly served as an electrician in the US Navy aboard the destroyer tender USS Samuel Gompers. Lynn was a lineman and dispatcher for Central Hudson Gas and Electric from 1986 until his retirement in 2011.
Lynn was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed casting a line in the streams, rivers, and lakes of New York as well as the warm salt waters of the Florida Keys. His true calling in retirement was being “Grampy,” “Grumpy Grampy,” or “Big Poppa” to his five adoring grandchildren. Planting vegetable gardens in the backyard, jello for breakfast, “stinky” cheese sandwiches, and hidden candy in his pockets will definitely be missed.
Lynn is survived by his brother, David DePaolo, and his wife Loreen; his children, Tracy & Mike Riordan, of Cudjoe Key, FL, Chris & Amanda DePaolo, of Herkimer, NY, Katie & Josh Pelkey, of Copake, NY; his grandchildren, Aleigha, Hailey, Hadley, Caleb and Peyton and his loyal labrador retriever, Barnibus Maximus Ninja Weasel DePaolo. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Gertrude DePaolo, and his brother, Donald “Donnie” DePaolo.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the team at the Bassett Cancer Center in Herkimer, especially Tari, Michelle, Arlene, Cassandra, and Dr. Canary. Your friendship, compassion, care, kindness, and love over the past ten months meant the world to our father and the rest of the family.
In respect with our father’s last wishes, a private service will be held for the immediate family. A Celebration of Life will take place later this summer in Speculator, New York. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131.
