Police are investigating “an active crime scene” in Central Plaza, Ilion, after reports of gunshots last night. The downtown area is taped off between the post office, Arc Mall, and Remington Federal Credit Union.

Police have confirmed that they found two different calibers of ammunition that were used, and the gunfire damaged the facades of two buildings.

Initial reports of gunfire came in at 8 pm, November 7th.

On November 11th, 2022, the Ilion Police arrested Donnie R. Birdine III, age 21, of 1845 State Route 51, Ilion. They charged him with Criminal Use of a Firearm (Class “C” Felony), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” Felony), and Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree (Class “D” Felony). The arrest stems from the “shots fired” investigation that occurred on November 7th, 2022. ¬†Due to bail reform, Donnie R. Birdine III was first released on his own recognizance; however, at his defense attorney’s request, bail was set at $1.00. This investigation is continuing.
